THE PODCASTER
I advise all podcasters to take the temperature of their podcasts. When you first launch, you should get feedback PRE-LAUNCH. However, when I work with people who want to grow their audience, I would say it’s safe to say that 97% didn’t do this.
THE “SCIENTIST”
Here is an example of someone who ignored advice:
Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos. Holmes was advised repeatedly by experts and advisors to ensure that her company's blood-testing technology was scientifically validated before making broad claims about its capabilities. - She ignored it.
THE PODCASTER
The podcast launches and tells everyone that their show is ready. They might even spend money on advertising their show on other shows. They want maximum exposure. However, when the general public gets their ears on the new show, it doesn’t resonate. Is it winter where you are? Maybe getting a little crisp? Pull up a chair and warm yourself with the money they just lit on fire.
The “SCIENTIST”
Theranos, once valued at $9 billion, collapsed after investigations revealed that its technology did not work as claimed.
I was at Podindy last weekend, and a few podcast consultants were talking shop, and the subject of “Have you ever been paid for your opinion only to have it 100% ignored?
And it turns out this is a fairly regular practice.
Putting Down Your Ego
While every show, and every audience is different, there are some best practices and I’m always amazed at the price of the ego. You don’t make changes because admitting something wasn’t perfect would be required.
I will be using Podpage’s new Audience Survey Tool to check in with my audience as I saw some feedback (in the form of completion rates in Apple’s dashboard) that required me to put down my ego and realize there are things I could be doing better.
This also isn’t about my ego. You don’t have to do everything I say. I spend a fair amount of time with new clients, so I understand their WHY and WHO so we can get on the same page with their WHAT and, more importantly, with their HOW.
TWO STEPS To Growing Your Show
1. Resonate - The content has to resonate with the audience to inspire them to tell a friend.
2. Get the content in front of people who don’t consume your content - but should
Profit From Your Podcast Audio Book
The updated audio version of the book Profit From Your Podcast is 99.9% done. I need to update the index before recording it (as it’s outdated and primarily talks about technology).
If you buy the book before the end of December 2024, I will give you a shout-out and mention your website at the end of the audio book.

Podcast Hot Seat Now with a Private Option
Speaking of feedback, based on user feedback, the “Podcast Hotseat” auditing service now has the option to keep the coaching session private (previously, we used it as an episode for the audience to learn along with you and give you more exposure).
Not everyone wants to be coached in public, so now, for an additional fee, you can keep the coaching session private (and keep all the bonuses, like a free month at the School of Podcasting). Check it out.
