So I’m listening to Feedback Friday from Jordan Harbinger. While I listen to Jordan’s show, I NEVER miss a feedback Friday episode. So I listen all morning as I’m getting ready for church. I decide mid-episode to maybe listen to music on the way to church I go to Spotify (I LOVE them for music, and hate them for podcasting) and there I see that the new book Down with the System A Memoir of Sorts by Serj Tankian who is the lead singer of the band System of a Down (who I love for both telling the truth even it’s not popular and being silly at times).
His book starts with him explaining how their second album had just gone to #1 on September 11, 2001. You might remember that one other thing happened on that day involving some towers. Serj put out a blog post two days later called Understanding Oil and admits that the timing was not the best (as he pointed out the history of the US meddling in the Middle East). Now he was on the Howard Stern show being grilled.
So here it is, we starting the story where the action happens. He is giving you behind-the-scenes (being on the Stern Show) information that you can’t get anywhere else. He has the audience asking, “What happens next?.”
He grabbed my attention, and aside from my time in church, the book has stolen and kept all of my attention. As a dumb American when it comes to history outside of our country, I had no idea all the perils of Armenia. He talks about holding his little brother as bombs fell outside his house (personal, vulnerable, information you can’t get any place). The #1 rule in podcasting is don’t be boring. So far this book is anything but boring. As soon as I get done recording and posting podcasts today, I’ll be right back to this book.
So with this in mind, I realize the opening of my show (after spending weeks researching, recording, and editing my content), is the next to LAST thing I do is record the opening. The very last thing I do is come up with a title. I need to reverse that. I do this with my topic (and write a blog post to flush out my thoughts), but to get them to read the blog I need a good title, a good opening paragraph, and a good opening of the episode.
We are in the attention business.
They will never make it to the end of the episode if we can’t hold them long enough to have them put the phone in their pocket.
New Service (and show): Podcast Hot Seat
I recently launched a new podcast “Your Podcast Website” and now I’m rebranding an old one. I previously did “The Podcast Rodeo Show” where I grab a podcast and see how long I hang on.
This has been rebranded to Podcast Hot Seat where I grab an episode from a willing/paying participant and I;
Listen to their episode (all of it)
Check out their website
Help them identify the good things about their show
Help them polish those things that need polishing (many times very low hanging-easy to fix fruit).

FlexClip
Every time I turn around there is another tool that is turning long-form stuff into shorts, etc. Flexclip is another one of those, but it also seems to do everything. This made me go, hmmmmm. They do have a free version if you want to kick the tires. (I have not yet, but again, it caught me eye).
WHOOP There it Is
As both my Apple Watch and Oura Ring (both around three years old) are starting to poke my patience as they constantly need to be charging, so I (based on word of mouth from a trusted friend) bought a WHOOP. Which is a faceless sensor you clip to your wrist or bicep and it measures all of your vitals. In a nutshell, you get the hardware for free and then pay for a subscription (around $240 a year, so not cheap).

McDonald’s Fries Vave 19 Ingredients
I LOVE McDonald’s fries (and it shows) but I may have to skip “Free Fries Friday” (on the app - which is the devil) after watching this video.

What’s Coming In The Future
As I mentioned above, I’m working on an episode to identify the different elements of content that are so good that people HAVE To share it. I’ve also got Matt Cundill from the Sound Off Podcast sharing lessons after 400 episodes.
I’m also experimenting with some tools so you can accept text messages from your audience (much like the tool from Buzzsprout).
