When You Get Snowed In, You May Lose Your Mind
Thanks for clicking that headline. You might be thinking, “What is Dave talking about?”—and that's perfectly normal. Rest assured, this is all about podcasting.
I’m a man of clutter. Give me a blank desk, and I’ll fill it with junk. Right now, I’ve got five little wipe packs, a bag of assorted earbud covers, a dead Lumen, and a few other surprises. It’s not pretty.
February in Ohio hasn’t delivered an avalanche of snow, but it’s been bitterly cold and icy. It hasn’t been above freezing in ages, so I rarely ventured out. Staring at the same walls for weeks was driving me a bit crazy. So I did something about it: I cleaned my kitchen. Underneath all that mess was a table waiting to be discovered. I started putting my dishes in the dishwasher instead of the sink, and suddenly I wasn’t silently groaning “ughhhh” every time I entered the room. It didn’t take much, but the visible progress sparked more ideas.
Tomorrow, I’m tackling the plastic tubs in my cupboards. I plan to take inventory and discard any mismatched tubs or lids (seriously, how does that even happen? There is always the ONE lid that doesn’t match anything). This quick, 10-minute cleanup should make storing leftovers easier and the kitchen a more pleasant place to be.
I also started working with a coach to identify low-hanging fruit. They helped me fix issues like dead links, confusing copy, and a lack of clarity as to what I do for people.
For example, I replaced a “sign up to get free podcast tips” with a pop-up offering the free Baby Steps course, and my email sign-ups quadrupled. Small tweaks can lead to big results.
Even though I’ve been snowed in, I feel genuinely happy. I even clapped my hands, stomped my feet, and said Amen! (If you know, you know). As odd as it sounds, a cleaner kitchen—where I begin and end my day—has positively impacted my mood.
So, here are three takeaways:
• Is there something you can change in your environment to make your work easier or less stressful?
• Notice the small victories—they inspire hope, bring joy, and give you the courage to keep moving forward. I smile every time the furnace comes on.
• Don’t wait to be inspired to move; moving inspires you. I’ve never regretted getting off the treadmill—only feeling proud for doing something good for me.
Keep tweaking, keep improving, and let even the smallest victories propel you forward in your podcasting journey.

Stuff That Caught Me Eye
Captivate - No Payments Until April
Captivate (the media host I use the most) is having a sale where you can sign up today and not pay until April. (this is not an April fool’s joke).
I Bought the Onvocado Pop-Up Builder
Avocado is on App Summo, right, not for $59 (lifetime). It’s so simple and powerful and gives you great insights. Here is a very casual first-time look at me using it. It’s normally $57/month. Check it out.
Billy Corrigan and Richard Marx Both Launch Interview Shows
We always say one of the things that makes a show unique is the host. BIlly Corrigan (front man for Smashing Pumpkins) has a very unique view that most interviewers don’t have. Throw in, he knows his music history and you get an interview of Gene Simmons and Tom Moreello (Rage against the machine) that was like no other. Ths show is called “The Magnificent Others.”
Richard Marx has a a show called Stories To Tell, where Richard (who was big in the 80’s 90s before moving more behind the scenes) is interviewing Paul Stanley of Kiss (now off their “last tour ever”) and they end up talking about how helpful therapy is when you’re no longer the hot ticket in town. Kudos to both Richard and Paul for peeling back the curtain and helping to eliminate any shame involved in having a therapist. Check it out.
