My Guitar Doesn't Lie: Podcast Mastery
What You Hear is YEARS of Practice - So Practice Podcasting
This newsletter contains affiliate links. Not all of them, but some of them. I earn a small commission and it doesn’t cost more. I call that a win-win.
So I’m watching Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story on Hulu, and keyboard player David Bryan said something that hit me. An instrument doesn’t lie. You can’t say, “Hey, I’m great,” because if you haven’t put in the time, that is just not true.
You can’t say “My podcast is the best” with two episodes under your belt. This doesn’t mean that only shows with 10,000 hours are great. The point is if you can’t get better if you never start. Then once you start find out what you’re doing good, but also identify your weaknesses.
My weakness when I’m doing a live stream is “And, um.” Between myself and my cohost, I removed over 200 “Ums,” and so on Saturday, when I’m live again, I’m going to try to focus on slowing down and thinking through what I want to say BEFORE I start to talk. You don’t get any better without identifying what you needs some polishing.
One thing I’ve known needs some polishing is my focus. I am creative and love to do different things. Yet, when I get into something, I am tempted by another shiny object (I was A.D.D before it was cool). So, I’m studying how to stay focused. I’ve purchased Michael Hyatt’s LifeFocus, and the more I dig into this, the more I might get certified to teach it.
Don’t beat yourself up with, “Oh man I have so many things that need polishing.” Pick ONE and work on it. Stay focused, and new habits can be built with determination and practice (consistent practice).
Any mastery takes time and patience, but the more you do it, the better you get. I’m studying the top YouTuber Mr. Beast (currently 255 million subscribers) and he’s 25. So he started when he was eleven years old. He’s been doing this forteen years. If you want to make five million an hour, you need to start today.
My New Show: Your Podcast Website
I launched a new show called, “Your Podcast Website.”You start a podcast thinking you would talk into a microphone (and that’s it). Then you find out that the ONE thing you need is a website (see episode 1). If you want to maximize your online presence and grow your show, check it out at yourpodcastwebsite.com/follow
Profit From Your Podcast is Now Available as Audio
My book Profit From Your Podcast: Proven Strategies to Turn Your Listeners Into a Livelihood is now available as an audiobook. I’m selling this via Soundwise. When you buy it, you will see that the audiobook is unfinished. I recorded chapter three this week and will record chapter four this weekend. That is on purpose. As I finish recording it, the early adopters will get a special channel to ask questions, and be mentioned in the book. ORDER TODAY or Listen to a Sample.

Another Reason To Think Spotify Sucks
I love Spotify as a music system, but as a musician, I sigh when I read, “With the introduction of the stand-alone audiobooks offering, Spotify is now able to pay lower music-licensing rates for the music-and-audiobook bundle…”
all that while announcing new profits.
Voicenotes
Voicenotes is from the people who created Buy Me a Coffee. You talk into it and it transcribes your voice. From there it can create a summary, list your main points, made a todo list, and more. It’s $10/month, but you can buy lifetime access for $50.
Ethic Sign
If you are getting signatures from guests, there is a service now on App Sumo called Ethic Sign that has a lifetime deal. It’s a platform that makes it super easy to collect signatures and keep all your documents in ship shape.
Monarch Money
A few issues ago, I told you how I’ve moved my personal banking to Acorns (where it’s helping me save money AND earn interest well Mint (a very popular free finance tool - again, free is not a good business model) has closed. While it’s not free, I’m eight days into my trial of Monarch. You can tie this into EVERYTHING. I have it tied into Acorns, Coinbase, the loan for my new windows, etc. I see EVERYTHING in ONE PLACE. It’s $8.33; you can get 50% off using the coupon mint50. I pulled the trigger on it. Check it out (aff).
