Let's Talk Best Practices
There is a reason they are called Best Practices

Did I Detect Some Snark?
So I was at the Empowered Podcasting Conference over the weekend. It’s a fun conference in a fabulous location and I got to speak, make some new friends and catch up with some old friends.
One speaker was urging people to not copy other people. I agree with that, but they also said the phrase “Best Practices” in the same way one might say “8-Track Tapes.” In that you expected them to say “Ugh… Podcast Best Practices…”
Now this might just be me as there is a difference between “don’t copy other people” and “ignore podcasting best practices.”
Think about it, “Don’t touch a hot stove” is a “Best Practice.” I tend to follow that one.
When I tell people to be sure and ask your audience to share it with a friend it’s because when a friend shares something with me, I tend to click on it. Hence, I would count, “Encourage your audience to share your show” as a best practice.
Sometimes they will throw in an “OG Best Practices” as if something old won’t work today. Remarkable content never goes out of style.
In the end, don’t hesitate to trying new things as all of our audiences are different and will potentially react differently. Work with your audience and give them what they need in an educational or entertaining way (or both!). In my travels, they gets you going in the right direction.
