Does What You WANT Resonate More Than What You Need?

This weekend is Mother's Day, which made me think of my Mom. I could've given her anything as a child, and she would've loved it.

Later, I might've purchased some kitchen appliances (I know, I know), but this year was different. I saw a black and white dress at the mall. We Jacksons look good in black (back in the day, my hair was jet black).

My Mom ALWAYS put us kids first, and she came last. Consequently, her wardrobe was outdated, and last on the list of things to update. When she opened the dress I had picked out, she cried. Luckily, it fit perfectly and she looked amazing. The gift resonated because it wasn't something she needed, but obviously something she wanted.

Little did I know I would bury her in it a month later after a heart attack. So two lessons today. Give your audience what they WANT and what they need - and hug your Mom. She's not getting any younger.
