The New People at Podcast Movement
It’s always fun seeing brand new “wanna be” podcasters who haven’t even pressed record at podcast events. On Tuesday they are excited, and maybe a little frightened. By Thursday they all have the same “fed with a firehose” look and express the same feeling, “Overwhelmed.”
So Now What?
We often overlook the business cards (both physical and electronic) and that is a mistake. The BIGGEST benefit of live events are the relationships you build. So make that step one. Reach out to those you put in the “keeper” pile of business cards.
Next Actions
You have a stack of 14 things to do, and you’re not even sure where to start. With this in mind, that is something to figure out. You need a name, you need artwork, and an episode to launch your show. To have an episode, you need a microphone (I like the Samson Q2U and the Rode Podmic USB).
I use Todoist. It works on my phone, tablet, website, computer, and it integrates with gmail, and chrome. Nothing feels better than crossing items off the todo list.
The “Big Picture” is Your Next Step
You don’t have to figure out the whole thing, you need to figure out the next step. When you think about the mountain of items, you will freak out and end up doing nothing. Focus on the next thing and do that ONE thing.

There's Nothing Like This: The Strategic Genius of Taylor Swift
Success leaves clues, and when it comes to music, you can’t argue with Taylor Swift’s success. I started listening to this book, and love or hate her music Taylor has a vision and nobody will stop her from achieving it (she walked away from a record deal the age of 14). A very interesting read or listen.
Audience Lift
I was surprised to see Travis from Buzzsprout working the Audience Lift booth (so obviously he has switched jobs). I blatantly explained how most of these “grow your audience with a flick of a switch” tools seemed like scams. He explained that there is no pre-loading and other things that are borderline fraud. So I have Audience Lift in my “circle back and look into” pile.
What’s Coming In The Future
Episode 1000 is two away. I might try to answer THE question, “How do you grow your show?” I’m not positive there is THE answer as all shows are different, but I’ve been thinking about this for three weeks.
