This newsletter contains affiliate links. Not all of them, but some of them. I earn a small commission and it doesn’t cost more. I call that a win-win.
For years, I’ve been saying that the mark of good content is making people laugh, cry, think, groan, educate, or entertain the listener/viewer. If you can do more than one at a time, that’s even better. Right now, I’m binge-watching “Young Sheldon” on Netflix. The show takes place in the 1980s and a lot of it was taking place when I was in high school, so the show makes me FEEL. I remember things I hadn’t thought about in a long time.
When the show This Is Us was on the air, I would grab a box of Kleenex and get ready to watch and cry. (Season 1 had me telling friends because it throws you a curve ball.) That show had so many things people could identify with. There was a loving family, sibling rivalry, adoption, inter-racial situations, obesity, mental health, and LGBTQ issues. Everyone could find something relevant in the show.
I’m working on a future episode that explores what makes something good enough to inspire your audience to SHARE IT. One book I’m reading is Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt, which provides some great insights into what he calls “WOW Content.”
So, on your next episode, is there anything you can do or say to evoke an emotion? This naturally starts with knowing who your audience is. When I was married, my stepson was around 11. I said, “Oh, way to go, Barney…” (I mean Barny Fife from the old Andy Griffith show). He had no idea who I was talking about. To that, I asked, “Purple Dinosaur?” He again shook his head no.
That made me feel very old.
My New Show: Your Podcast Website
I launched a new show called “Your Podcast Website.”You start a podcast thinking you would talk into a microphone (and that’s it). Then you find out that the ONE thing you need is a website (see episode 1). If you want to maximize your online presence and grow your show, check it out at yourpodcastwebsite.com/follow
Profit From Your Podcast is Now Available as Audio
My book Profit From Your Podcast: Proven Strategies to Turn Your Listeners Into a Livelihood is now available as an audiobook. I’m selling this via Soundwise. When you buy it, you will see that the audiobook is unfinished. I recorded chapter three this week and will record chapter four this weekend. That is on purpose. As I finish recording it, the early adopters will get a special channel to ask questions, and be mentioned in the book. ORDER TODAY or Listen to a Sample.
