If You Wait Until It's Perfect You'll Never Move
You can always find a reason to NOT do something.
This newsletter contains affiliate links. Not all of them, but some of them. I earn a small commission, and it doesn’t cost you anything. I call that a win-win.
One more thing: I had intended to send this a week or so ago, and it got lost in my drafts, so don’t freak out when I send another newsletter later this week.
When "Good Enough" Is Exactly What You Need
I wasn't a planned child. I'm not sure why my Dad told me this (it's not exactly a confidence booster), but I wasn't, and everything turned out OK (at least so far). My unexpected arrival caused my family to move into the house I'm now living in. It wasn't perfect, but in the long run, it worked out fine. It also explains why my middle name is "Oopsie."
To make a long story short, I'm moving my courses at the School of Podcasting from Zenler (a fine product) to Heartbeat (a tool I've used for my community and added courses to a few years ago). Both platforms offer courses, but if I leave Zenler, I save $67/month. While I won't retire on this, an extra $804 a year can add up.
Having my community and courses under the same roof will be amazing. I meticulously reviewed all the "crossing of Ts and dotting of Is" as I copied and pasted coupons and alerted affiliates. Then, I went to redo my sales page.
The Heartbeat sign-up page is simple and easy, but if you've watched any tutorial on building a sales page, you know it's missing some key ingredients. In other words:
It's far from perfect.
I thought, "Maybe I should stay where I am." After all, $67 is pretty affordable (not as affordable as $29 for Pensight), but I could stay put.
This is where looking at the long game matters. I rely on my podcast to drive traffic to my sales page. If I depend entirely on a sales page to communicate value, then I'm not effectively conveying what the School of Podcasting truly offers.
I could create a third-party landing page, but I'm 99% sure that would cut off my affiliates (and I like that whole "do unto others" thing and try to follow it).
I’m sure the Heartbeat Team will update their tech in time. They always make updates, and I’m sure it’s on the list.
Maybe you wanted to start your podcast with an SM7B, professional lighting, and a Rodecaster Pro, but things happen, budgets get cut, and it's not exactly what you envisioned. Start from where you are with what you have. I started bankrupt, divorced, living in my brother's basement, and using a dented Shure SM58 that plugged directly into my Dell computer's sound card.
It was far from perfect, but it got me into podcasting. Once you start, you can only improve. As Zig Ziglar said, "You don't have to be great to start, but you do have to start to be great."
If you wait for everything to be perfect, you'll never begin.

Stuff That Caught Me Eye
Castmagic is back on AppSumo
This is the first time I’ve seen this. The lifetime deal for Castmagic is $400, but you can buy access to it for a year for $59. When I purchased my lifetime deal, it was $79. It does make me wonder why they are back on App Summo.
Tella Videos - Loom on Steriods
I have canceled my subscription to Loom because I found Tella. Tella has many of the same features as Loom, but I love that once I record my screen, myself, or both, I can do a bunch of editing with different layouts to stop my videos from being boring. While it’s not as robust as something like Camtasia (A tool I use to edit my videos) where I can blur parts of the screen, I rarely use that feature. If you’re a person making training videos, I highly recommend it. Check it out.
A Better AI Tool - MAGAI
Why pay $20 for GPT when you can pay $19 for ChatGPT, Claude AI, Google Gemini Advanced, Meta Llama, and more! Magai has them all for one price. Check it out.
What’s Coming In The Future
Partnerships Not Sponsorships
I’ve recently interviewed two people doing quite well without having 10-20,000 downloads per episode. They are the poster children for “The Power of the Niche.” They are forging partnerships instead of sponsorships. I can’t wait to share these discussions with you.
